Note that Firmware v3.42 and v5.0 have just been released to a popular game console and that USB development kits cannot be used to perform JailBreak Exploits any longer after software 3.41! News 2010-12-07 Now ps3key.com has released files that allow you to use ps3key to downgrade from 3.42 or 3.50 to 3.41. NOTE! Unable to downgrade from system version 3.55 !!!
2010-12-08 We have now seen reports that it is not only we who have had problems with BLURAY FILM after the downgrade. If you already have system version 3.41 and "jailbreak" - back up / dev_flash2 and / dev / flash3 via FTP so that you can restore the support if for any reason you upgrade and then downgrade again.
NEW VERSION:
The new development dongles come with SiliconLabs IC circuits called (Silabs) by the Ps3Key team, these USB devices, unlike the first 30 we got in the beginning, do not pull o out of the computer's USB ports to initiate in update mode. You simply insert it into the computer and wait until it appears as a USB memory with files on.
One tip is to first delete the FIRMWARE.BIN file and replace it with the new updated or self-composed file.
All USB development dongles sold by / with us after 2010-10-10 are of the model (Silabs).
Once you have received your PS3KEY, you can register it and confirm that you have received an ORIGINAL PS3KEY at http://www.ps3key.com
(You who could not register the ps3key we delivered 2010-10-15, try again, the new serial numbers should be activated now, the Ps3key team had a little full up when they packed o sent all the dongles and missed it.)
If you want to use it as a JailBreak, you must also download new firmware from the page above. Due to the uncertain legal situation we only take home dongles with a generic bootloader so you can use them for optional projects just like a Teensy.
We will ship this product WITHOUT the manufacturer's logo to indicate that the PS3KEY is intended for any USB project.

History:
The idea behind jailbreaking the popular game console was primarily to get a new opportunity to start "homebrew" - ie, self-developed unsigned code on the current console. A feature that many people lost from their console when the feature to install an alternate operating system was removed during one of the latest system upgrades.
